Wiiiiiicked

turns your hands into an instrument.

On the trackpad or with your bare hands in front of the camera: your effects and your synths follow your hand, every nuance of it.

34 effects, and your hands to play them

Put it on a track or on the Master. Left-right, up-down, pressure, the spread of two fingers: each gesture holds an effect.

Four gestures, four effectsFilters, distortion, modulation, delays, reverbs, rhythmic and spectral effects: you play four at once, with a finger or in front of the camera.
Attack, pressure, releaseThe effect comes in with your gesture, follows the slightest pressure and leaves when you lift your hand, while the echoes and reverbs ring out.
On stage, you stay in controlPut your hand anywhere: it sounds good. Scenes recalled in time, an A ↔ B fader between two of them, and PANIC cuts everything in 20 ms.

In time and on stage
  • Quantization to Live's tempo: the looper and the slicer start on the grid.
  • Gesture loop: ● REC records your movement, and it replays in time. Autopilot: the pad moves by itself.
  • The Montée (the rise): a set's build-up in a single gesture, from the bottom corner to the top corner, landing right on the one. With Wiiiiiicked MIDI, it rises together with the MIDI plug-in's MONTÉE, drop included.
  • 8 scenes recalled instantly, on the bar or with a fade, and an A ↔ B crossfader between two scenes.
  • Everything can be controlled over MIDI from your controller (Live's MIDI Map mode): PANIC, scenes, next preset, HOLD.
  • Three modes: Play, Edit (the pad stays playable while you tweak) and Scene, stripped down for live. ⌘Z undoes the last preset or scene change.
Your gesture: finger or camera
  • Camera on, you play: no key to hold. On the trackpad, ARMER (arm) arms it in one click; another click disarms it.
  • Hands: your palm places the dot, a thumb-and-index pinch gives the pressure, the gap between your two hands plays W.
  • Your face, from the Camera icon's menu: your head gives the position, an open mouth the pressure, your eyebrows the W effect. Open palm for half a second: everything stops; thumbs up: it starts again.
  • In Live and in the standalone app, with any webcam.
Settings
  • Modulations: two LFOs, finger speed, press duration, two-finger rotation.
  • Smoothing adapts to your gesture: a big movement goes through at once, a small one stays smooth.
  • The volume guard: an effect never plays louder than the loudest of what comes in.

Improvise with your synths

Put it on a MIDI track: it plays Live's synths and your hardware. It has no sound of its own: your synths do the singing.

Always in the scaleChords, bass or drums, with the mouse, the trackpad or both hands in front of the camera: no wrong notes, and on stage, the audience sees your hand make the sound.
You always know what your hand is doingThe screen reads in three lines: your machine, how you play, what your hand does. Under the pad, every gesture is spelled out.
Let go of the pad: it keeps goingPick a style: it invents the rhythm, varies the phrase and sets up the break. The autopilot chains the chords. Nothing to program.

Draw a rhythm with your fingertip

Turn the sound on, then slide across the square: to the right, more hits on the 16 steps; upwards, the rhythm rotates. Each hit plays the next note of the chord. It's a tiny piece of Wiiiiiicked MIDI: its Euclid engine (EUCLIDE) and its arpeggiator (ARPÈGE).

For each one, eight gestures already wired to its CCs, and a note on what to switch on on the machine. For the others: MIDI Learn.

What you play: chords, bass, drums
  • Poly: the chords of your scale, with 3 or 4 notes, with the 7th and the 9th; each chord moves to the next by the shortest path (voice leading).
  • Mono: a bass line, a slide when your finger glides, an accent when you press; or a melody that mutates as you like.
  • Drums: twelve zones under your fingers, for a Drum Rack, the Analog Rytm, the A4 or the Digitone.
  • TÉMOIN (test sound) plays a small sound without plugging anything in; a MIDI keyboard can also pick the chords.
What your hand does: six modes, two hands
  • Six ways to play, the same on the trackpad and on camera (keys 1 to 6): your hand plays the note, or shapes the rhythm, the sounds, the pitch, the energy while the chord keeps going; BANDES (bands) puts all three layers under one hand.
  • 2 MAINS (2 hands): one plays the note, the other shapes.
  • The axes bar, under the pad, always tells you what each gesture does, and AXES › sends it wherever you want: the swing, the octave, the arpeggio, your machine's CCs. Two tempo-synced LFOs, the press duration and the gesture speed move the rest.
  • FIGER (freeze) keeps what your hands have set, so you can touch it up with the mouse.
In time: 18 styles, living sequences, the autopilot

Eight sequences per style, from the calmest to the fullest. One click switches at the next bar; the 4, 8 or 16-bar phrase varies, picks up again and sets up the break on its own.

  • Four engines invent the sequence as it plays: EUCLIDE (Euclid) spreads the hits as evenly as it can, DÉS (dice) adds a dose of chance, TURING mutates a loop, GRAVITÉ (gravity) bounces a ball. And ANNEAUX (rings), set by hand like on an Elektron. ARPÈGE (arpeggio) and STRUM for chords, a line for the bass.
  • PILOTE (autopilot) plays a chord progression that comes back around, like a song: POP, JAZZ, ANDALOUSE, CINÉ… ten moods, or TA GRILLE (your grid), the one your finger just played. The MONTÉE (rise) sets up the drop.
  • On camera, with both hands: the left picks the sequence (or the mode, by showing 1 to 4 fingers), the right plays; a fist, an open palm and a thumbs-up trigger the break, the stop and the start.
Scenes and memory
  • Eight scenes under the pad, recalled on the bar, every 2 bars or on the phrase, your machine's CCs included; the A ↔ B fader glides from one scene to another; SUITE (next) chains them into a song.
  • 27 pad presets, and your own: a way of playing in one click. REC keeps what you play, ÉDITER (edit) touches it up step by step, GRILLE (grid) replays your chords to free your hands.
  • .MID to drag into Live, ⌘Z to go back, profiles to find your settings again in another Set.

Play before everyone elsefree beta

The beta takes place on Audiofanzine, and it's free. No selection: if you feel like playing with it, your place is waiting. Wiiiiiicked Audio works in Live, Logic, Bitwig, Reaper, Cubase…; Wiiiiiicked MIDI as well, if you have Ableton Live 12.

  • A free licensefor active testers, yours to keep after the beta.
  • Every new versionbefore anyone else.

Good to know
  • Mac only: macOS 12 or later, Apple or Intel chip.
  • Wiiiiiicked Audio: Live, Logic, Bitwig, Reaper, Cubase…, as VST3 or Audio Unit, plus a standalone app.
  • Wiiiiiicked MIDI: Ableton Live 12, as VST3. It's in the same installer.
  • Pro Tools only accepts the AAX format: use the standalone app.
  • Each test version has a time limit, shown in the plug-in; your projects always open.
  • When you install, macOS warns that the installer isn't signed by Apple: the guide shows what to click.
How the beta works, and what we'll ask of you

Several versions follow one another: the first for installing and discovering, the next ones with fixes and your feedback, the last one for free use. A questionnaire closes the beta.

  • At the start: install while noting every snag, play for 15 minutes without the manual and then with it, put a “Live” preset on one of your tracks. Then two fingers, the gesture loop, quantization, the camera.
  • Then: what's new in each version, in a real project or a real set.
  • At the end: free use, then the final questionnaire.
  • No obligation. An active tester sends at least two written reports and fills in the final questionnaire.
